ARK's three-headed hound and bottomless dragon are live, but the engine upgrade meant to join them isn't
Studio Wildcard's triple drop landed on September 30: the Cerberax, the Gargantar and a full Therizinosaurus rework. The Unreal Engine 5.8 upgrade that was supposed to arrive the same day has moved to October 28.

ARK: Survival Ascended's long-trailed September 30 drop is out. Studio Wildcard shipped three things at once: the three-headed Cerberax, a dragon called the Gargantar that eats the battlefield, and a ground-up rework of the Therizinosaurus. The fourth item on the list, the game's move to Unreal Engine 5.8, did not come with them.
Three tames, three very different pitches
The Cerberax is a three-headed hound whose fire, venom and electrical attacks are built to be used in combination, and taming it is a three-part job rather than one knockout. Each head wants something different: one respects a survivor who won't back down, one is open to bribery with food, and one wants to be taken hunting. The studio's framing is "one tame, three trials, no majority rule." It is part of the paid Fantastic Tames Season 1, which also covers the Burrowbuck and the Enigmasaur, and it has been added to The Center, Scorched Earth, Lost Colony, Ragnarok, Extinction, Valguero, Astraeos and Genesis.
The Gargantar goes to ARK: Dragontopia owners instead. It inhales more or less anything in front of it - creatures, trees, bushes, resources - and gets harder to kill the more it has swallowed. Allies can be stored in its belly for safety; everything else comes back up as acid spit.
The Therizino rework
The Therizinosaurus TLC, which Wildcard says players picked through an Extra Life charity vote, is the deepest change of the three. It gets a new model, animations and locomotion, support for all six colour regions, a jump and a turn-in-place toggle. Harvesting investment is now visible on the creature: pouring levels into Power Harvesting thickens its claws, Delicate Harvesting lengthens them, and tamed Therizinos adopt a Power, Balanced or Delicate posture to match. There is also a new two-claw Cross Swipe that knocks smaller creatures back without harvesting anything. Wild ones now stare you down and spread their claws before attacking, and will leave you alone if you back off. Wildcard says the Giganotosaurus is next in line.
The engine upgrade slipped
Unreal Engine 5.8 was originally part of this same September 30 bundle. In Community Crunch 525 on September 26, Wildcard said it was staging the rollout instead: a public test realm beta client opens on Steam on October 5, and the full upgrade now lands on all platforms on October 28. The studio was explicit that the date change wouldn't touch the creature drop, and it didn't.
Why it matters
This is the biggest content day ARK: Survival Ascended has had in months, and the split - creatures on time, engine upgrade four weeks late - is a useful signal for anyone deciding whether to wait for the UE 5.8 build before coming back.
