Caves of Qud's Switch 2 version is a free upgrade, and the only way to own it on a card is a 1,500-copy run
Kitfox Games and Freehold Games are shipping the Switch 2 edition of Caves of Qud as free DLC for Switch 1 owners rather than a separate port, while Lost in Cult handles the game's first-ever physical release.

Caves of Qud, the science-fantasy roguelike that spent a decade in early access before its 1.0 release, is coming to Switch 2 - but not as a new store listing. Publisher Kitfox Games and developer Freehold Games say the Switch 2 edition arrives as a free DLC upgrade layered on top of the existing Switch version, and that there will not be a separate native digital Switch 2 port.
Free, if you already own it
In practical terms that means anyone who bought the Switch release earlier this year gets the better-running version at no cost, and anyone buying it now buys the Switch 1 listing and upgrades from there. The studios describe the improvement as boosted resolution. No date has been given beyond the upgrade landing soon, and the game sits at $29.99 on its existing platforms.
The physical edition is the scarce part
The other half of the announcement is Lost in Cult, the boutique publisher that put out a Caves of Qud vinyl soundtrack earlier in the year, producing the game's first physical release. It is Switch 2 only - there is no card version of the Switch 1 release - and it is capped at 1,500 copies across two variants. The standard EDITIONS package has a custom slipcase with cover art by Sajan Rai and a poster and sticker set by Raquel Meyers; a Retail+ version adds a fold-out map of Qud's overworld. Both can be bundled with the vinyl. Lost in Cult announced the same treatment for The Séance of Blake Manor at the same time, also limited to 1,500.
Shipping is the catch. Lost in Cult says both titles go out by the end of June 2027, roughly nine months after pre-orders opened.
Why it matters
Caves of Qud is a 2015-era mod-friendly PC roguelike that keeps finding new homes, and this is a tidy example of how small studios are handling Switch 2: no second SKU, no upgrade fee, just a patch-shaped DLC. The physical release is the part worth acting on quickly, because 1,500 copies of anything is not a number you get a second run at.
Why it matters
It is a clean model for Switch 2 upgrades from a small team - free DLC rather than a paid re-release - and the accompanying physical edition is the only card version Caves of Qud will get, in a run of 1,500.
