Control Resonant's first big update adds endless New Game++ runs and eases up the Unknown Zone

Remedy's Game Update 1.4.0 turns New Game+ into an unlimited loop, puts your Build Power on the loadout screen and cuts combat in the Unknown Zone by 10 to 15 percent. It also lets you mute the Apocalyptica track in the intro credits.

Remedy has shipped Game Update 1.4.0 for Control Resonant, a week after the game launched on September 24. The studio says it has been happy with stability and technical performance through the launch window, and frames this one as polish plus a batch of quality-of-life changes that only became obvious once a lot of people were playing at once.

New Game++ and knowing your own build

The headline addition is New Game++, which Remedy describes as letting you play an infinite number of runs. Alongside it, the Loadout screen now shows your Build Power number in the bottom left rather than burying it in the Stats and Effects menu, and the patch notes spell out the point of surfacing it: if you are below the enemy level, combat is going to be a slog, so go do side quests and level up. The HUD also picks up a notification icon when there is something new to buy or upgrade in The Gap, and materials you have pinned for an upgrade now show on the map's Vendor icon, so you can tell whether a vendor stocks them without walking over to check.

Difficulty and accessibility

Remedy has reduced the overall amount and intensity of combat in the Unknown Zone by 10 to 15 percent. Assist Mode gains a Power Core Charge Duration setting with a 100 to 300 percent multiplier. Radio dialogue gets its own volume slider, including the balance between speakers or headphones and the DualSense controller speaker, and there is a new tutorial explaining that the Rush ability clears status effects.

Fixes, and one unusual toggle

The notes list a long run of map-marker fixes, subtitle and voice-over corrections, a framerate drop during the Artist Resonant fight's special attack, over-saturated HDR highlights in the AgX tonemapper, and performance work aimed specifically at PC minimum and recommended specs. Razer peripheral haptics are now supported. There is also a "Mute copyrighted music" option for Apocalyptica's "Upperhand" over the intro credits, which Remedy lists with an aside asking why you would. Separately, the studio points players at new optional AMD drivers it says improve performance and fix several crashes.

Why it matters

This is the first Control Resonant update that changes how the game plays rather than just what it fixes. Endless New Game++ runs and a gentler Unknown Zone are both direct answers to what players have been saying since launch.
