Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action movie set in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, according to trade and games outlets including Deadline, Variety and Gematsu. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, the producer behind the Transformers and G.I. Joe films, is producing it alongside CD Projekt Red.

What is known

Coverage so far gives only the basics: the studio, the producer and CD Projekt Red's involvement. No writer, director, cast, release date or story details have been shared, and it is not clear whether the film will follow the game's story or tell a new one.

Not the first attempt

CD Projekt Red said in 2023 that it was working with the production company Anonymous Content on a live-action Cyberpunk 2077 project, at an early stage and with no confirmed format, and said in 2024 that it was still planned. The reports we saw do not say how, or whether, the Paramount film relates to that earlier project.

Why it matters

A Paramount film with a Transformers producer is a much bigger swing than the earlier early-stage live-action plans, and Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the few recent games with a proven screen audience thanks to Edgerunners.
