Directive 8020's couch co-op mode is finally going online, five months after launch
Supermassive Games says Movie Night, which until now only worked with everyone in the same room, gets an online version this October. Up to five players will be able to pass the story's decisions around remotely.

Supermassive Games is bringing Directive 8020's Movie Night mode online. The studio announced on September 30, through its Dark Pictures social account, that online co-op arrives for the space horror game in October - five months after the game itself came out.
What changes
Movie Night is Supermassive's long-running party format: a group divides the cast between them and each player takes the controller when their character is the one making a decision. Directive 8020 shipped with it, but only locally, with everyone on the same couch. The October update takes the same idea onto the internet, for up to five players according to Kotaku's report.
The studio has not given a date inside October, has not said whether the mode arrives as a free update, and has not detailed how it handles a player dropping out mid-story - which is the part a branching horror game has to answer.
A rough stretch for the studio
Directive 8020 has taken a while to get here. It slipped from October 2025 to May 2026 after Supermassive cut jobs in July 2025, and the studio ran another round of layoffs in August 2026 affecting roughly 75 people. Adding a mode this long after launch is not the usual live-service cadence, and the timing - landing in October, in horror's own month - looks deliberate.
Why it matters
Movie Night is the reason a lot of people buy a Supermassive game, and until now Directive 8020's version of it required everyone to physically show up.
