Dynasty Warriors 3's remaster is out today, with online co-op still to come
Koei Tecmo's remaster of the 2001 Musou landmark launches October 1 on PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC at $39.99, bundling Xtreme Legends. Two-player online co-op is promised in a later update.
Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is out today, October 1, on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PC via Steam, where Koei Tecmo lists it at $39.99.
What's in it
The package pulls together the original Dynasty Warriors 3 and its Xtreme Legends expansion, with refreshed graphics and controls. More than 40 officers from the original roster return, joined by Ziluan, the protagonist of 2025's Dynasty Warriors: Origins - the one piece of the line-up that didn't exist in 2001.
Koei Tecmo has been careful about how much it touches the combat. True Musou attacks, offline split-screen co-op and the original Musou, Free and VS modes all survive, and several systems can be flipped between Classic and Normal behaviour. The additions sit alongside that rather than on top of it: an Evasion move with a Just Evasion counter, a Perfect Power Guard deflect, a Weapon Fusion system for building ultimate weapons, and new scenarios that unlock extra officers. A Digital Deluxe Edition adds 42 weapons, six Secret Teachings, concept art and 42 retro costumes.
Online co-op is coming later
The one notable gap at launch is online play. Koei Tecmo America said during the game's Tokyo Game Show 2026 stage event that a post-launch update will add two-player online co-op, with timing and details to be announced. Until then, playing with someone else means sharing a screen, as it did on the PlayStation 2.
A free demo has been available since September 24 across all four platforms, covering the Battle of Hulao Gate scenario with six playable officers. Progress from it does not carry into the full game.
Why it matters
Dynasty Warriors 3 is where the Musou formula clicked, and this is its first real modern rebuild - arriving a year after Origins tried to take the series somewhere new.
