SNK is putting a demo of Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves on Switch 2, announced with a new trailer. It is a straightforward pitch for a $19.99 fighting game: try six of the roster before you buy, on the platform where the game is newest.

What's in it

The playable six are Rock Howard, Terry Bogard, Hotaru Futaba, Preecha, Vox Reaper and Mai Shiranui. Arcade mode runs Rock, Terry and Hotaru from the prologue through to their rival battles, and there is Classic Versus, Training, Tutorial and Trial alongside it. Nintendo Life's rundown adds a Colour Edit option for character customisation and notes that Classic Versus does not allow player-versus-player.

Both control schemes are in: Arcade Style for traditional inputs and Smart Style, SNK's simplified one-button combo layout aimed at players who have never held a fight stick.

The Switch 2 version itself

SNK's own press release sets the digital Switch 2 launch for October 22, with a Japan-only physical edition following on January 21, 2027. The Standard Edition is $19.99 or EUR19.99 for the base game; the Starter Edition is $29.99 or EUR29.99 and folds in the Season Pass 1 to 3 character lineup. Pre-orders get a classic Mai Shiranui costume that SNK lists as a Switch 2 exclusive for now, with the caveat that it may become paid DLC elsewhere later.

Feature-wise the port is not cut down: SNK lists cross-platform online play with rollback netcode, handheld, tabletop and TV play, one-to-two local players and up to twelve over a network, the REV System that drives the game's offensive options, and the solo RPG mode Episodes of South Town. Season 3 content is still on the way.

Why it matters

City of the Wolves launched to a warm reception and a thin player base, and $19.99 on Switch 2 is SNK's most aggressive attempt yet to fix the second problem. A demo with crossplay behind it is the part that actually matters - a fighting game lives or dies on whether the people who try it can find matches.

Why it matters

A free demo plus a $19.99 price on Switch 2 is SNK's clearest attempt to grow City of the Wolves' player base, and crossplay means new Switch 2 players join the existing pool rather than a separate one.
