Isles of Sea and Sky, the block-pushing open world puzzle game that Kyoto-based Cicada Games put out on Steam in May 2024, is coming to Switch on October 8. Nintendo's own store listing carries the date, and Gematsu reported the announcement.

What it is

It is a Sokoban descendant with an open world wrapped around it. You wander an archipelago solving block puzzles, picking up companions who change what the puzzles can do, and unlocking powers that reopen places you had already given up on. There is a story underneath it that the game is in no hurry to explain. It sold well enough on PC to earn a reputation among people who liked Stephen's Sausage Roll and never quite recovered.

The Switch details

The listing prices it at $19.99 and shows a 500MB download, single-player only, with TV, tabletop and handheld modes. It is a Switch title rather than a Switch 2 release, but Nintendo lists it as supported on Switch 2 with consistent behaviour. Save Data Cloud and family-group lending are both supported, and 14 languages are listed. Cicada Games is credited as publisher, with Cicada Soft LLC as developer.

Why it matters

Handheld is the right shape for a puzzle game you pick at for ten minutes at a time, and this is one of the better ones PC got in 2024. Two and a half years later it finally has the console it was made for.
