Asked whether FPS Boost is coming back, Xbox's Jason Ronald says the team is cooking
A reply on X from Xbox's VP of next-generation gaming stops short of confirming anything, but promises more to share before the end of 2026. FPS Boost has been dormant for years.

Someone asked Jason Ronald on X whether FPS Boost was ever coming back. Ronald, Xbox's vice president of next-generation gaming, replied on September 30 that there is nothing to announce, that the team is "cooking on a number of things", and that there will be more to share later this year.
What FPS Boost was
FPS Boost was the back-compatibility feature that took older Xbox games and ran them at higher frame rates on Xbox Series X and S - 60fps for games built for 30, and in some cases 120. It was applied title by title by Microsoft rather than by the original developers, and the list stopped growing years ago. PureXbox, which spotted the exchange, puts the programme's effective end around five years back.
Why it matters
Xbox has spent the last fortnight shipping exactly this kind of thing - Disc to Digital opening up to all players, Mythic Achievements going to Insiders - so a vague promise about performance work is more credible than it would have been a year ago. What it is not is a commitment to the specific feature that was asked about.
Why it matters
Xbox is shipping back-catalogue and platform features again, so a senior hardware executive hinting at performance work before year's end is worth noting - even if FPS Boost itself was never confirmed.
