Moadra finally has a date. Developer Gloomsoft announced that its science-fiction Metroidvania arrives on Thursday, October 22, closing out a stretch of more than a year in which the game was best known through a demo that kept getting patched.

What it is

You play a hunter picking through Protea VI, a forgotten planet, in search of redemption and whatever is buried underneath it. The pitch leans on movement: rolling, dodging, leaping, wall jumping and sprinting past organisms that are mostly trying to kill you, backed by a set of weapons and unlockable abilities in the usual Metroidvania shape.

It is launching on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch and PC via Steam.

A demo that did the work

Gloomsoft's announcement thanks the people who wishlisted and sent feedback, and that feedback is visible in the game's history. The demo's 1.1.0 patch alone reworked gamepad aiming with a free-aim button and a crosshair, narrowed target locking to the closest enemy to that crosshair, sped up scanning, retuned jump and acceleration, changed crouching to a hold input, moved the healing skill off its resource cost, and removed a frame of input lag.

"See you on Protea VI in about a month, Lieutenants," the studio signed off.

Why it matters

October is already stacked, and a small-team Metroidvania landing mid-month is easy to lose. This one has a public track record of acting on demo feedback, which is a better signal than most launch trailers.

Why it matters

Moadra is a small-studio Metroidvania arriving in an unusually crowded October, and its visible history of reworking the game around demo feedback is the main reason to keep it on a watchlist.
