Naughty Dog has two more Last of Us projects going, and Intergalactic stays hidden until 2027

Neil Druckmann used the studio's Last of Us Day sign-off to confirm two early-stage projects that will extend the series' canon past Part II. He also said Naughty Dog will go quiet on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet for the rest of the year.

Naughty Dog closed out its annual Last of Us Day on September 28 with a short post from studio head Neil Druckmann that carried two pieces of real news.

More Last of Us on the way

Druckmann wrote that the studio has "a couple of very exciting new projects in very early stages" that will "expand the canon of The Last of Us beyond Part I and Part II." He framed the decision carefully, saying the team wouldn't go back to the series unless it had something meaningful to say.

That's all the detail there is. No platform, no format, no window, and nothing that confirms whether either project is a game, a spin-off or something tied to the television side of the franchise. Anyone expecting a Part III announcement should note that Druckmann said neither project is far enough along to show.

Intergalactic goes dark

The other half of the post concerns Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the sci-fi game Naughty Dog revealed at The Game Awards nearly two years ago and has barely mentioned since. Druckmann said the team is "heads down on what is shaping up to be Naughty Dog's most ambitious game yet" and that the studio will "be quiet for the rest of this year."

Then comes the promise: "In 2027, that changes. We'll fully reveal Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet and give you a proper look at Jordan's wild sci-fi adventure." A release window still hasn't been attached to it.

Why it matters

Naughty Dog hasn't shipped a brand-new game in years, and this post sets expectations for at least the next 12 months: nothing substantial on Intergalactic until 2027, and two Last of Us projects that are too early to talk about.

Why it matters

It's the clearest schedule Naughty Dog has given in a long while, and it tells players not to expect a full Intergalactic showing at any 2026 event.
