Arcade shoot 'em up Sturmjäger is aiming at January 14, 2027
German studio Byteproduct has dated its sci-fi shmup for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and PC. It promises ten hand-built missions, local co-op and a scoring system that rewards playing recklessly.

Byteproduct has announced Sturmjäger, a sci-fi shoot 'em up built around old-fashioned arcade scoring, with a January 14, 2027 release date listed on Steam. The German studio is developing and publishing it for PS5, Xbox Series, Switch and PC.
What it is
Sturmjäger runs to ten handcrafted missions, playable solo or in local couch co-op. Byteproduct's own pitch is about as blunt as the genre gets: if it moves, shoot it, and if it does not, shoot it anyway. Boss fights punctuate the missions, and each stage carries its own visual theme and music, running from open space down to the ocean floor.
Built for the leaderboard
The scoring is where the studio is putting its effort. Gematsu's write-up of the announcement describes a system that rewards aggression rather than survival — chaining kills, staying close to enemies, and clearing runs without dying all feed the multiplier. Three modes (Arcade, Mission and Score Attack) and three difficulty levels feed into global online leaderboards, with upgradable weapons layered on top.
Rafael Dyll, a regular fixture in the shmup scene, is writing the soundtrack.
Why it matters
Dedicated shoot 'em ups with couch co-op and a proper score-chase structure are thin on the ground on consoles, and this one is shipping on all four platforms at once.
