Tetris 99's next Maximus Cup hands out a Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave theme
The 57th Maximus Cup runs from October 2 to October 5 and ties into Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Reach 100 event points in Tetris 99 mode and the collaboration theme is yours to keep.
Nintendo has dated the 57th Maximus Cup, the recurring Tetris 99 event that pays out a cosmetic theme to anyone who turns up and plays enough. This one is built around Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the Switch 2 strategy RPG that came out in the middle of September.
When it runs and what you need
The event starts at 12:00 a.m. PT on Friday, October 2 and ends at 11:59 p.m. PT on Monday, October 5. Earning the theme takes 100 event points, accumulated by playing matches in Tetris 99 mode - so it is a matter of putting in games rather than winning them outright.
The usual conditions apply: Tetris 99's online play is part of Nintendo Switch Online, so a paid membership and a Nintendo Account are required. Nintendo notes that new members can use a seven-day free trial, which comfortably covers a four-day event.
Why it matters
Maximus Cups are the closest thing Tetris 99 has to a content cadence, and they double as free advertising for whatever Nintendo has just released. Fortune's Weave is barely two weeks old, so this is the promotional slot working as designed. For anyone who already pays for Switch Online, it is a themed board for four days of ordinary play - and unlike a lot of limited-time rewards, the theme stays unlocked once you have it.
Why it matters
Maximus Cup themes are permanent unlocks, so a four-day window is the only chance to get this one - and it doubles as Nintendo's promotional push for a two-week-old Switch 2 release.
