Ubisoft's Tom Clancy studios now all answer to the Massive Entertainment name

Ubisoft has renamed Creative House 2 as Massive Entertainment, stretching its Malmo studio's brand over the teams behind The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell in four territories.

Ubisoft has given one of its internal development groups a name people outside the company might actually recognise. Creative House 2, the unit that holds the teams behind Tom Clancy's The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell, is now called Massive Entertainment.

What changed

In an announcement posted on September 30, Ubisoft said development teams in Montreal, Paris, Sweden and Toronto now operate under the Massive Entertainment brand. The label covers the three Tom Clancy franchises plus new original IP, with Ubisoft naming March of Giants specifically. Massive Entertainment stays part of Ubisoft, which continues to handle publishing and distribution for everything the group makes, and the company says existing commitments to players and partners are unchanged.

The name itself is not new. Massive Entertainment is Ubisoft's Malmo studio, and the announcement leans on what it calls a nearly three-decade legacy established in Sweden. What is new is how far that name now stretches: a single Swedish studio's identity has been pulled over teams on two continents.

Who is running it

General manager Christoph Hartmann leads the group, and Ubisoft ties the rebrand directly to his appointment earlier this year. "Bringing our teams together under one identity gives us the opportunity to combine the creative energy and expertise across Montreal, Paris, Sweden and Toronto to shape the next generation of these iconic franchises, create new games and IPs, and push our craft and technology forward," he said.

Why it matters

Ubisoft's reorganisation into Creative Houses has so far produced units known by number rather than name, which told players nothing about who was making what. Putting a studio brand on one of them is the first real look at that structure from the outside, and it lines up three long-running Tom Clancy series under a single banner for the first time. What it does not do is say anything about the games: there is no new release, date or project attached to the announcement.

Why it matters

It is the first time Ubisoft's post-reorganisation Creative Houses have been given an outward-facing identity, and it puts The Division, Ghost Recon and Splinter Cell under one studio brand.
