Vincent D'Onofrio stepped in when God of War Laufey's lead actor got picked apart over her looks

A pocket of accounts complaining that Deborah Ann Woll's Faye isn't attractive enough drew a reply from her Daredevil co-star, who called her beautiful and talented and said he cannot wait to play the game with his son.

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye, the protagonist of God of War Laufey. Over the past few days a set of accounts have been complaining that she - or rather her in-game likeness, and the armour it wears - is not attractive enough, with at least one framing it as a studio choosing ideology over its job and calling for a boycott. On September 30 her Daredevil co-star Vincent D'Onofrio replied.

What he said

Posting on X, D'Onofrio opened with "Not that you asked, but… In no way do i agree with you. Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented." He went on to describe Woll as "as smart as whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind," and closed by calling her a good friend.

He also made it clear which side of the argument he is on as a player: "I am a fan of God of War. I for one cannot wait to play the new game with my son."

The wider pattern

This is the second time this week that someone attached to God of War has publicly pushed back on how the Laufey conversation is being conducted. Series creator David Jaffe, whose own livestream criticism of the game's creative director had been picked up and recycled by people attacking her, posted that using it that way was "low." Neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio has commented on either episode.

Why it matters

God of War Laufey is a February 2027 release with a live pre-order campaign, and the loudest conversation around it right now is about an actor's face rather than the game. When people who worked on the franchise and people who worked with the cast keep having to say so out loud, that is worth noting on its own.

Why it matters

A major PlayStation release is heading into its marketing run with the discussion around it fixated on its lead actor's appearance, and the people closest to the production are the ones publicly objecting to it.
